Welcome to the MirrorSight FAQ!
About MirrorSight
Mirrorsight allows the use of injected foam and plasti-dip style weapon and shield props, so long as they have no exposed latex surfaces, adhere to Core Accelerant guidelines for foam thickness, and have soft, rounded edges and thrusting tips (where applicable). Because this style of weapon tends to have a firmer striking surface than older, fabric covered weapon styles, extra care must be taken when using these weapons to ensure they do not hit too hard. If we receive complaints about your use of an approved weapon, we may require you to switch to a softer style of boffer.
At this time we do not have formal incentive exchanges with any LARP. However, we still offer Shiny Points if report that you have volunteered as and NPC or staff for any Accelerant game (regardless of location) or any LARP based in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC.
Attending a weekend event as a player character costs $125. This fee earns you a spot in our PC housing from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon and helps cover the cost of our site rental, event insurance, and supplies for Monster camp.
Yes! We have a limited number of Sponsored Tickets, which allow players to pay a discounted attendance fee thanks to the generous donations of our players. Alternatively, if you are interested in helping us out as a non-player character, your event is free, and we’ll even cover the cost of a meal plan for you!
Absolutely! While we cannot promise that our game site will always be perfectly accessible, we have designed our system to be as accessible as possible, with many ways to create low-combat or non-combat characters. If you have medical restrictions that need accomodation (for instance, cannot be struck in simulated combat) please reach out to us. We will be happy to discuss accomodations and help you design a character that you can safely play!
We aim to be friendly and welcoming to all new players, but especially to new LARPers! In addition to our welcoming community of existing players, we have also collected helpful resources on the New LARPer’s Guide linked at the top of our website!
For liability reasons we cannot accept players under the age of 18.
Shiny Points are the “currency” in a system we use to reward players who help the game or our community in meaningful ways. Common ways to earn Shiny Points include donating requested items to Monster Camp, submitting a Post Event Letter, or accepting a set-up or clean-up task for a particular game. Once earned, Shiny Points can then be redeemed for Character Points, crafting components, in-game currency, or other useful rewards for a player character.
Many of the things that we reward with Shiny Points, other LARPs reward with Character Points. However, MirrorSight is a level-capped game, meaning that there is a fixed ceiling for how many Character Points a character may have. Shiny Points incentivize investing in our community without disrupting our Character Point limits.
