What Skills Do You Have?

In the real world, one’s professional title is often determined by the skills a person has acquired. However, for ease of gameplay, in the world of MirrorSight, groups of related skills are locked behind titles called Headers.

A character has little choice about their culture of origin, and less about their Lineage. While some skills are Common Knowledge (and thus available to everyone) it is the skills you choose to learn that demonstrate who and what a character has chosen to be.

Learn How Headers Work!

There are things that everyone in the world knows and is capable of doing even without specialized training or skills. These are not purchased skills and do not count for prerequisites.

Common Knowledge

Open Skills are General Skills which may be purchased in any order at any time. Unless you have a skill or ability that says otherwise, Open Skills always cost 1 CP.

Skill Ladders are sets of General Skills which must be purchased in the order they are listed. These skills always cost 1 CP. When you purchase the last skill in a Skill Ladder, you gain a unique trait.

Combatant Headers

Combatant headers are skillsets representing training intended to help a character survive pitched combat. Some characters may be self-taught, while others may have received tutelage from a private instructor, and some may have drilled alongside countless others in a militia or town guard. Whatever the case, these characters can hold their own in a fight.

Combatant Specific Rules

Archers, Fencers, Brawlers, Guards, and Mauraders make up the lowest Tier of Combatants.

Tier 1

Duelists, Guardians, Huntsmen, Mercenaries, Pugilists, and Varangians make up the second Tier of Combatants.

Tier 2

Bastions, Berserkers, Dervishes, Rangers, and Prizefighters make up the third Tier of Combatants.

Tier 3

Priest Headers

Priest headers are skillsets representing an individual’s particular form of devotion to the gods, and the blessings they have received from the gods in response to that devotion. Since the Fallen God’s Rebellion, the Unified Church has tightly controlled all teachings related to the pantheon, monopolizing the most advanced techniques for safely channeling Divine energies. As a result, although the vast majority of community Priests are Deacons, the more learned (and thus more powerful) Priests are overwhelmingly found in the ranks of the Church hierarchy.

Priest Specific Rules and Divine Paths

Itinerants, Novices, and Deacons make up the lowest Tier of Priests.

Tier 1

Archivists, Confessors, Friars, and Ritualists make up the second Tier of Priests.

Tier 2

Abbots, Exorcists, Legates, and Vicars make up the third Tier of Priests.

Tier 3

Scholar Headers

Scholar headers are skillsets representing the formal study and practice of magic. Because magic is a fundamental force in the world, it is fairly simple to learn the basics even without formal schooling, though advanced study typically requires access to more skilled scholars, or texts written by them. In general, scholars are divided based on the source of their power. Substantic scholars pull power from physical objects, while etheric scholars learn to siphon energy out of the air.

Scholar Specific Rules

Entropic Scholars, Negentropic Scholars, Crystal Scholars, and Emerite Scholars make up the lowest Tier of Scholars.

Tier 1

Arcanists, Battle Mages, Crystal Mages, Necromancers, Spirit Mages, and Wizards make up the second Tier of Scholars.

Tier 2

Elementalists, Nature Sorcerers, Planar Sorcerers, and Resonance Sorcerers make up the third Tier of Scholars.

Tier 3

Tradesfolk Headers

Tradesfolk headers are skillsets aimed at the tasks of living, and at manipulating the small magics inherent in daily life. There are many more types of Tradesfolk than are represented here. In fact, Tradesfolk are more common in Eos than Combatants, Scholars, or Priests! However, the headers we have included represent those skillsets we considered most likely to lead an individual to the life of an adventurer. If you wish to create a character that comes from a different Tradesfolk background, please reach out to staff and we will be happy to work with you.

Tradesfolk Specific Rules

Anvils, Apothecaries, Buskers, Healers, Tinkers, and Urchins make up the lowest Tier of Tradesfolk.

Tier 2

Tier 3

Synergy Headers

Synergy headers are skillsets representing a blending of approaches to the world of Eos. Whether this is crafter studying the ways of the Scholar to enhance their Tradesfolk skills, or a Combatant who chooses to take vows as a Priest, the skillset cannot easily be neatly categorized as one or the other. Because they always require at least one other header as a prerequisite, each Tier of Synergy header is functionally more powerful than another header of the same Tier. However, most of these skill sets are “dead ends” that do not directly fulfill prerequisites for higher Tier headers.

Hedge Wizards and Troubadours make up the lowest Tier of Synergy Headers.

Tier 1

Druids, Firebrands, Monks, and Paladins make up the second Tier of Synergy Headers.

Tier 2

Curse Weavers, Templars, and Thanes make up the third Tier of Synergy Headers.
