Welcome to the MirrorSight FAQ!
About MirrorSight
Attending a weekend event as a player character costs $125. This fee earns you a spot in our PC housing from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon and helps cover the cost of our site rental, event insurance, and supplies for Monster camp. A meal plan can be purchased at an additional cost.
If you opt in to the meal plan, MirrorSight staff will provide breakfast on Saturday and Sunday at 10am and dinner on Saturday at 6pm. You are responsible for disclosing any dietary restrictions.
MirrorSight is a realistic high fantasy, meaning that people use magic to impact the world in both wonderful and terrible ways. The events and plotlines explored during our events will often reflect this. As such, the following content warnings may apply during MirrorSight events: • Horror elements • Loud Noises • Fog effects • Graphic violence • Simulated injury • Flashing lights • Absence of light • Mind Control and Charm effects • Cultural or religious antagonism (IN-GAME) These content warnings are not exhaustive. When possible, MirrorSight will give specific content warnings prior to players’ contact with the plot.
We aim to be friendly and welcoming to all new players, but especially to new LARPers! In addition to our welcoming community of existing players, we have also collected helpful resources on the New LARPer’s Guide linked at the top of our website! Unfortunately, for liability reasons we cannot accept players under the age of 18.
Shiny Points are the “currency” in a system we use to reward players who help the game or our community in meaningful ways. Common ways to earn Shiny Points include donating requested items to Monster Camp, submitting a Post Event Letter, or accepting a set-up or clean-up task for a particular game. Once earned, Shiny Points can then be redeemed for Character Points, crafting components, in-game currency, or other useful rewards for a player character.
Many of the things that we reward with Shiny Points, other LARPs reward with Character Points. However, MirrorSight is a level-capped game, meaning that there is a fixed ceiling for how many Character Points a character may have. Shiny Points incentivize investing in our community without disrupting our Character Point limits.
At this time we have formal incentive exchanges with Numina 3 and Cottington Woods 2. However, we also offer Shiny Points if report that you have volunteered for any Accelerant game (regardless of location) or any LARP based in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC.
Campsite Information
Currently, all our weekend-long events take place at Camp Tockwogh in Worton, MD. TRIGGER WARNING: Due to the campground’s position on the bay, explosions from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds may sometimes be audible.
Yes! Staff will direct you where to set up when you arrive.
Yes! All of the main buildings, including player housing, have robust electrical outlets. You should be able to plug in any devices that you need or want.
All of the main buildings we use, including player housing, have heating but not air conditioning.
No. Unfortunately the campground does not currently have wifi set up in any of the areas we use.
Event Logistics
Yes! Please be aware that the closest area with food and lodging is a 20-30 minute drive away from the site. However, you are welcome to come and go during the event as long as you do your best to avoid driving through areas of active play.
Nope! We rarely ask players who have paid for an event to spend part of their weekend fighting on the NPC side, instead relying on volunteers from other LARPs. Very occasionally, PCs may be asked if they would like to volunteer for an NPC shift, and any PC that accepts will receive an in-game reward at the end of their shift.
We strongly recommend joining our community on Discord to get specific suggestions from experienced players. However, in general, you should plan to bring pillows and sheets/blankets for your bunk (twin size), toiletries and medication, as well as any costuming, props, and makeup needed for your character.
There are gravel roads that lead to or very near the main buildings we are using. You may use these to pull up to your assigned lodging.
There is a section of “head in” parking along the road leading to the Conference Center, and another parking area near the cottages. If both of these areas are full, you may park on the field behind the ropes course, along the treeline.
Safety and Inclusion
Yes! We have a limited number of Sponsored Tickets, which allow players to pay a discounted attendance fee thanks to the generous donations of our players. Alternatively, if you are interested in helping us out as a non-player character, your event is free, and we’ll even cover the cost of a meal plan for you!
Absolutely! While we cannot promise that our game site will always be perfectly accessible, we have designed our system to be as accessible as possible, with many ways to create low-combat or non-combat characters. If you have medical restrictions that need accomodation (for instance, cannot be struck in simulated combat) please reach out to us. We will be happy to discuss accomodations and help you design a character that you can safely play!
Mirrorsight allows the use of injected foam and plasti-dip style weapon and shield props, so long as they have no exposed latex surfaces, adhere to Core Accelerant guidelines for foam thickness, and have soft, rounded edges and thrusting tips (where applicable). Like all melee weapons, they must pass Weapons Check at the beginning of every event.
Because this style of weapon tends to have a firmer striking surface than older, fabric covered weapon styles, extra care must be taken when using these weapons to ensure they do not hit too hard. If we receive complaints about your use of an approved weapon, we may require you to switch to a softer style of boffer.
Weapons Check occurs during sign-in of every event. You must bring your boffer weapons, shields, and a sample of your packets to be inspected. A staffer or trained volunteer will make sure that they meet Accelerant combat safety standards, and, if they fail, explain why.
